Saffron Walden and District Footpaths Association

The Saffron Walden and District Footpaths Association was formed in 1963 to encourage the use of footpaths in the area around Saffron Walden - approximately from Balsham to Stansted north and south, and from the Bumpsteads to Barley east and west. Membership is £5 per household per year. Newcomers and visitors are welcome on all our walks.

The times shown are for leaving Saffron Walden Common car park (TL 540 385 Sat. Nav. CB10 1LX)unless otherwise stated. We leave promptly and share cars to the walk start points as parking is tight in places. Permission to park has been given where required.

All our walks are approximately five miles long.

Any questions? Please contact

The Association currently running a limited programme of walks for members but is not able to offer a published walking programme. Anyone interested in joining the Association is welcome to enquire about taking part in a sample walk on a Sunday afternoon. You will need to be fit enough to walk 5 to 6 miles at a moderate pace. The ground can be uneven so suitable footwear is essential as is suitable clothing for the prevailing weather conditions on the day of the walk. We do allow walkers to bring well behaved dogs with them but they must be kept on a lead when appropriate or when the leader requires it. For further information please email
